Let’s write a better future for Minnesota, together.
Hi neighbor,
When I ran for office in 2022, I vowed to work together, with you, to write a better future for Minnesotans. And in my first term in office, we did just that. Under the DFL Trifecta, we passed transformative, generation-changing legislation. We made history by delivering for Minnesotans in ways that had never been done before. And there’s so much more we can do.
What we’ve done to date is incredible. In one single legislative session, we enacted 10 years of progressive policy driven by community leaders. It’s now easier to take care of ourselves and our families, with new benefits like Paid Family and Medical Leave and Earned Sick and Safe Time. We invested in housing stability for families on the brink of homelessness, spurred production of new homes across the state, and delivered pathways to first-time homeownership. Thanks to historic transportation and infrastructure funding, we are expanding our bus, rail, biking, walking, and rolling infrastructure to benefit generations to come. These transportation and infrastructure investments toward improvements will make South Minneapolis and the Metro Area more accessible, connective, and adaptable to climate change. We also invested in our youth: every student in Minnesota now has access to free breakfast and lunch, more teachers in the classroom who represent our diverse student population, and to Ethnic Studies curriculum. The best education should offer students nourishment to thrive, mirrors to see themselves in history, and windows to understand others’ experiences and cultures. We’re on our way.
These policies have meant real, meaningful change for the people in our district and for Minnesotans across the state. And we have only just begun to scratch the surface of the systemic problems our communities face every day. At the capitol, I heard from our community members who testified, wrote, rallied and protested. And I worked day in and day out with you to get our collective needs met- whether it was working with a single community member on getting training for bus drivers to support riders with disabilities, or standing shoulder to shoulder with the East Phillips community to fight for environmental justice with the Roof Depot site. Being responsive and accountable to constituents was and will continue to be my highest priority.
As your representative, I continue to view my role as a brave voice to get the best for our community. I will push our party when we need to be pushed, and fight for the voices in our state that are often overlooked. I am running for re-election to be a champion of change so we can realize our DFL promise of making Minnesota a great place to raise a family. I won’t stop fighting to fully fund education because we know our schools are struggling to meet our students’ needs. I will continue to push our state leaders to boldly address our housing shortage so options are affordable and available. And I will stand with our 2SLGBTQ+ community as we fight to build a Minnesota that is inclusive where everyone can thrive. And finally, in order to accomplish what we need to for our schools, our health, and our lives, we need to build a just economy and raise revenue to fund our future.
I’m excited for the world we can continue to build together. See you in the streets and at the doors.
In community,
Representative Samantha Sencer-Mura
